All phone cards in Australia have local access
numbers in the bigger cities. A lot of phone provide
local access numbers in the major Australian cities and towns. To save money
you should use a phonecard that has a local access number for the city where
you live – as close as possible to you. This way you only get charged your
phone provider’s local call fee. The call rates shown on this site assume you
are using your phone card's local access number.
Don’t worry if there is no local access number for your town. Most phone
cards also provide a 1800 and 1300 access number
that you can use to make calls but these generally have a small per minute
surcharge. This is usually between 10-20c/min extra if you use the 1800
number and around 5c/min extra for using the 1300 number to access the phone
card service. Say you are calling Singapore and the call rate for your card
is 1c/min. If you use a 1800 number to access the
phone card service the call rate will be 21c/min and if you use the 1300
number the call rate will be 6c/min. Some phone cards such as MyLand, Telstra
Say G’day, and Darling phonecards don’t have any surcharge on their 1300
number – so it is the same as a local access number.
If you are a regional customer it is best to use a card with a zero surcharge
1300 number.
